Northern Scot October 2003 ( UK) Radiotones– Bound to Ride The month gets off to a raw and bluesy start as the Radiotones, Scotland’s answer to Canned Heat, come rollin’ and tumblin’ into town on Friday, October 3. The four-piece alternative blues band from Perth are soon to release their new album, Bound to Ride. Having heard some of the songs on their new disc, I can guarantee that you will be mesmerised by Dave Arcari’s rough-as-a-cat’s-tongue vocals and biting national steel guitar. Dave sounds like a cross between Canned Heat’s Bob “The Bear” Hite and Blind Willie Johnson, and plays slide like the Heat’s Al “Blind Owl” Wilson. Radiotones’ music has been described as a country/blues/ punk hybrid, but it’s actually beyond simple definition – you’ve got to hear it for yourself.
